Blogs within a blog within a blog? Blogs blogs blog. Blog inception. Though now the word ‘blog’ looks weird. Blog.
These are some we check regularly: music news, info, business, new music, reviews. They’re also a good reference source for a bit of wider reading. We’ll regularly be sharing a few of our favourites so check back here (or make sure you’re following us on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter) to see more recommendations to help your music career fly.
WHAT’S GOING ON IN THE MUSIC WORLD
pitchfork.com – The go-to place for music discovery, originally a strong focus on independent releases but has grown more commercial over the years. Extensive features, comment and reviews in particular.
musicweek.com – The industry publication. Covers all the business moves of the majors and good macro view of the global industry. News is free, comment and features subscription only.
WANNA LEARN MORE/DEVELOP AS AN ARTIST
tunecore.com/blog – Online aggregators are a great source of info for indie artists, though there’s an obvious slant towards their own services. Ignore the bias, and there’s a wealth of info on publishing, distribution, marketing and fan engagement.
blog.nextbigsound.com – Data, metrics, analysis. A brilliantly thought-through site, including breakdowns of artists’ careers by their social media followers and engagement (a tool you can use to analyse your own career). Also a great weekly roundup.
CREATIVE/DISCOVER NEW MUSIC
hypem.com/blogs – A blog of blogs. Sure. Music discovery blogs, split up by genre. Woah! Hypem also analyses all the blogs and consolidates a list of the most talked about music on the Internet at any given time.
